UPDATE: U.S. media outlets are failing to inform the American people about this spending package. It is up to us to tell our fellow citizens that a special interest lobby on behalf of a foreign country is pushing through the largest military aid package in U.S. history while the American public is being kept in the dark.
The bill has now been passed by the House, which amended it, and it is now back before the Senate. Please use the form below to contact your elected representatives. For more info, check out our post on the IAK blog.
- If Americans Knew Team
$38 Billion To Israel Package Now Before Congress. Tell them to VOTE NO before it's too late!
U.S. media outlets are failing to inform the American people about this spending package. It is up to us to tell our fellow citizens that a special interest lobby on behalf of a foreign country is pushing through the largest military aid package in U.S. history while the American public is being kept in the dark.
This military aid package to Israel will cost U.S. taxpayers $38 billion over the next 10 years – the largest such aid package in U.S. history. This works out to $23,000 per every Jewish Israeli family of four. It has already been approved by the Senate.
The AIPAC promoted bill is being pushed through despite the fact that surveys show that most Americans feel the U.S. is already giving Israel too much money. (Is that why U.S. media are failing to tell people about it?)
Right now, the bill is before the the House Armed Services Committee and the Committee on Science, Space, & Technology. (If you wonder why it's being reviewed by the space committee, it's because it requires NASA to work with the Israeli space agency, despite accusations of Israeli espionage against the U.S.). More information on the legislation is here.
When the House reconvenes on September 4th, there will be a strong push to move the bill out of committees and take it to a quick vote. We've created a form for you to contact your representatives and tell them to vote No! Please take a moment right now to fill it out.
The bill number and title are H.R. 5141 United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act of 2018
It is vital that as many people as possible voice their opposition to this bill. If our elected representatives vote in favor of this package, they must know they are defying the will of the American voters.
Even though the House is currently out of session, the members continue to be extremely active during this period, learning about constituents' views, campaigning, and even monitoring Facebook. Your emails and phone calls will show them that you're paying attention to this issue and want them to vote No on more money to Israel!
AIPAC members are contacting Congress; the rest of us need to do so, also.
Call (202) 224-3121 to be connected with your Representative's office.
3 Reasons to Object to this bill (H.R. 5141):
And Israel gets most of the aid in a lump sum at the beginning of the fiscal year – this means that the U.S. government borrows the money and then pays interest on it long after it's gone, while Israel deposits the money into an interest-bearing account in the New York Federal Reserve Bank, obtaining even more money from the U.S. economy. On average, Israelis receive 7,000 times more US foreign aid per capita than other people throughout the world.
The Israel lobby has bullied Congress long enough – it's time for the rest of us to weigh in!
Please take the few minutes necessary to take the following steps. We may not defeat the bill yet, but your action will help start the powerful process that will eventually succeed.
